Overview

The Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake Trek is a legendary Himalayan journey that blends cultural richness, diverse landscapes, and high-altitude adventure into one unforgettable experience. Operated by Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions, this trek takes you through the heart of the Annapurna region, encompassing lush subtropical forests, deep river gorges, alpine meadows, and the dramatic desert-like valleys of Manang and Mustang. What sets this route apart is the breathtaking detour to Tilicho Lake (4,919m) — one of the highest glacial lakes in the world — nestled beneath the stunning Tilicho Peak.

Beginning in the lower Annapurna foothills, the trek gradually ascends through charming villages like Chame and Pisang before entering the culturally rich Manang Valley. After proper acclimatization in Manang, the trail diverges toward Tilicho Lake, offering a more remote and less traveled path surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks. After visiting Tilicho, trekkers rejoin the classic route to cross Thorong La Pass (5,416m) — the highest point of the trek and a true alpine achievement. The descent takes you into the sacred Muktinath valley and then down through the Kali Gandaki Gorge, one of the deepest on Earth. This extended circuit offers the perfect combination of spiritual exploration, natural beauty, and physical challenge.

Best Time for Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake Trek
The most favorable time to embark on the Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake Trek is during the spring season (March to May) and autumn season (September to November). These months provide stable weather, clear skies, and moderate temperatures, which are ideal for both high-pass crossings and lake visits. In spring, the lower forests bloom with rhododendron and magnolia flowers, adding vibrant color to the trek. The days are pleasantly warm, while the higher altitudes remain crisp and clear, making it easier to witness the grandeur of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.

Autumn, on the other hand, offers unparalleled visibility and is often considered the best season for trekking in Nepal. The monsoon rains clear the dust and haze, leaving crystal-clear views of the mountains and dramatic blue skies. The trail is also culturally enriching during this period, with major Nepali festivals like Dashain and Tihar often coinciding with the trek. While winter (December to February) can bring snow to the high passes and make Tilicho Lake inaccessible, and summer (June to August) sees heavy rainfall and landslides in the lower regions, Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions can still arrange customized itineraries for experienced trekkers in these off-peak seasons.

Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake Trek Difficulty Level
The Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake Trek is rated moderate to challenging, requiring good physical fitness, mental endurance, and prior trekking experience at altitude. The trek involves several days of walking at elevations above 3,500 meters, with the highest point being Thorong La Pass (5,416m) — a demanding but non-technical crossing. Additionally, the Tilicho Lake side trip introduces steep trails, loose scree, and exposure to high winds, which can make the journey more strenuous than the standard Annapurna Circuit.

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) is a significant concern on this route, especially because Tilicho Lake is reached before full acclimatization. For this reason, Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions builds in acclimatization days and uses a carefully crafted itinerary to allow gradual altitude gain. The long trekking days, changing temperatures, and varied terrain — from subtropical forest paths to icy high passes — require a solid level of stamina. However, no climbing equipment is needed, and with the support of experienced guides, porters, and a well-paced route, fit trekkers of all backgrounds can complete this journey successfully.
