Highlights

Overview

The Everest Base Camp (EBC) Trek is one of the most iconic and sought-after trekking adventures in the world. Located in the heart of the Khumbu region, this trek takes you to the foot of Mount Everest (8,848.86 meters)—the highest peak on Earth. Starting from the bustling town of Lukla, the trail winds through Sherpa villages, alpine forests, ancient monasteries, and glacier-fed rivers, offering stunning views of the Himalayas at every turn. Along the way, you'll pass through famous stops like Namche Bazaar, Tengboche Monastery, Dingboche, and Gorak Shep, before finally reaching Everest Base Camp at 5,364 meters.

The journey is as culturally rich as it is scenic. Trekkers will experience the warm hospitality of the Sherpa people, visit historic monasteries adorned with prayer flags, and learn about the Buddhist traditions that have shaped life in the region. The sense of achievement upon reaching base camp is profound, but many also consider the hike to Kala Patthar (5,545 meters) to be a highlight, offering the best panoramic view of Everest and surrounding giants like Lhotse, Nuptse, and Pumori. This trek is not just a physical challenge—it’s a spiritual and emotional journey through one of the most awe-inspiring landscapes on Earth.

Best Time for Everest Base Camp Trek
The best seasons for the Everest Base Camp Trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). In spring, the trail is lively with blooming rhododendrons and wildflowers, while the skies are generally clear, offering superb visibility of the Himalayan peaks. The weather is warm during the day and cool at night, providing comfortable trekking conditions without the intense cold of winter.

Autumn is equally popular and often considered the optimal time for trekking in the Khumbu. The post-monsoon skies are crystal-clear, the air is fresh, and the temperatures are stable. During these months, trekkers can enjoy dry trails, stunning sunrises over Everest, and a bustling but friendly trail environment. Winter (December to February) is possible for experienced trekkers prepared for cold conditions and snow, while monsoon season (June to August) brings heavy rain and cloud cover, which can obscure views and increase the risk of flight delays and landslides.

Major Highlights of Everest Base Camp Trek
The Everest Base Camp trek is filled with world-class highlights. One of the most unforgettable stops is Namche Bazaar, a vibrant Sherpa town that serves as the gateway to the high Himalayas. Here, trekkers acclimatize and explore shops, cafés, and museums. Another key highlight is the Tengboche Monastery, the spiritual center of the Khumbu region, surrounded by 360-degree mountain views and a powerful sense of tranquility.

Further up the trail, Gorak Shep serves as the last settlement before reaching base camp. From here, trekkers hike to Everest Base Camp, where the thrill of standing at the foot of the world’s tallest peak becomes a reality. The following morning, a sunrise trek to Kala Patthar offers the best view of Everest’s summit—an experience many describe as life-changing. Other highlights include crossing suspension bridges over roaring rivers, witnessing Buddhist ceremonies, and spotting Himalayan wildlife such as musk deer, Himalayan monal, and sometimes even snow leopards.

After check-in, take time to relax and recover from your journey. Depending on your arrival time, you may explore nearby areas like Thamel, a vibrant district filled with cafes, shops, and local culture. In the evening, you’ll meet your trekking guide for a detailed briefing about the Everest Base Camp trek.

Day 2 : Kathmandu Sightseeing and Trek Preparation

Today, enjoy a guided cultural tour of Kathmandu Valley’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites including the sacred Pashupatinath Temple, the serene Boudhanath Stupa, and the ancient Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple). These spiritual landmarks offer insight into Nepal’s rich cultural and religious heritage. Later in the day, your guide will assist in finalizing gear, permits, and preparations for the trek. Overnight at your hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 3 : Fly to Lukla and Trek to Phakding (2,610m / 8,563ft) – 3-4 hrs

An early morning flight takes you to Lukla (2,840m), a thrilling 35-minute journey offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas. After a brief rest in Lukla, begin your trek with a gentle descent through picturesque Sherpa villages, lush forests, and along the Dudh Koshi River. After about 3-4 hours of trekking, you will reach the village of Phakding. Settle into your teahouse and enjoy your first night in the Khumbu region.

Day 4 : Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440m / 11,286ft) – 6-7 hrs

Today’s trek takes you through pine forests and across several suspension bridges draped with prayer flags. You’ll pass through the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo and continue alongside the Dudh Koshi River. A challenging uphill climb brings you to Namche Bazaar, the bustling Sherpa capital and trading hub of the Everest region. The village offers stunning mountain views, cafes, bakeries, and a lively atmosphere.

Day 5 : Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar

To adapt to the increasing altitude, today is reserved for acclimatization. You can hike to the Everest View Hotel (3,880m) for panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. Along the way, visit the Sherpa Culture Museum or the local monasteries. This day helps your body adjust to the thinner air and prepares you for the higher elevations ahead. Return to Namche for overnight stay.

Day 6 : Trek to Tengboche (3,860m / 12,664ft) – 5-6 hrs

Leaving Namche, the trail contours along mountain ridges with magnificent views of Everest and other peaks. After descending to the Dudh Koshi River and crossing a suspension bridge, you begin a steady climb through rhododendron forests to reach Tengboche. This village is home to the iconic Tengboche Monastery, the largest in the Khumbu region, with a stunning backdrop of Ama Dablam. Attend the evening prayer ceremony if time permits.

Day 7 : Trek to Dingboche (4,410m / 14,468ft) – 5-6 hrs

Today’s trail descends through forests and crosses the Imja River before climbing gradually through the village of Pangboche. As you gain altitude, the landscape becomes more alpine and arid. You’ll pass stone-walled pastures and grazing yaks before reaching Dingboche, a windswept village nestled in a broad valley. The views of Lhotse, Island Peak, and Ama Dablam are especially captivating here.

Day 8 : Acclimatization Day in Dingboche

Another important acclimatization day is spent in Dingboche. A popular acclimatization hike leads up Nangkartsang Hill (approx. 5,100m), offering sweeping views of Makalu, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. Take it slow today, hydrate well, and enjoy the tranquility of the high Himalayas. Rest and prepare for the upcoming push to Everest Base Camp.

Day 9 : Trek to Lobuche (4,940m / 16,207ft) – 5-6 hrs

The trek continues along dry alpine terrain and glacial moraines. You’ll pass memorials dedicated to climbers who lost their lives on Everest, which adds a somber but meaningful note to the journey. After a steady climb, you arrive at Lobuche, a small settlement surrounded by towering peaks like Nuptse and Pumori. The thin air at this altitude makes the pace slower, so take time to acclimate.

Day 10 : Trek to Everest Base Camp (5,364m / 17,598ft) and Gorak Shep (5,164m / 16,942ft) – 7-8 hrs

Today is the most anticipated and rewarding part of the trek. After an early start, you follow the trail through glacial terrain to reach Gorak Shep, where you leave your belongings and continue to Everest Base Camp. At the base of the world’s highest peak, celebrate your achievement with photos and reflection. The view of the Khumbu Icefall and the surrounding glaciers is surreal. Return to Gorak Shep for the night.

Day 11 : Hike to Kala Patthar (5,545m / 18,192ft) and Trek to Pheriche (4,280m / 14,042ft) – 7-8 hrs

Start early to hike to Kala Patthar, the best vantage point for sunrise over Mount Everest. The climb is steep but offers an unparalleled close-up view of Everest, Nuptse, and other Himalayan giants. After enjoying the scenery, descend to Gorak Shep for breakfast and continue your return trek to Pheriche. The descent offers a sense of accomplishment and changing scenery as you lose altitude.

Day 12 : Trek to Namche Bazaar – 6-7 hrs

The trail today follows the Imja River through Pangboche and Tengboche, eventually leading you back to Namche Bazaar. The walk is easier now, with oxygen-rich air and familiar landscapes. Upon arrival in Namche, you can enjoy a well-earned rest, hot showers, and perhaps a slice of cake or coffee at a local bakery.

Day 13 : Trek to Lukla – 6-7 hrs

Today marks your final day of trekking. Follow the Dudh Koshi River trail back through Monjo, Phakding, and finally to Lukla. It’s a time to reflect on your journey, thank your guides and porters, and enjoy a celebratory dinner with the Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions team. Overnight in Lukla before your flight back.

Day 14 : Fly to Kathmandu

Weather permitting, you’ll take a scenic early morning flight back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to your hotel where you can enjoy a relaxing day. Take time to unwind, shop for souvenirs, or explore more of the city. A farewell dinner with Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions can be arranged to celebrate your successful Everest Base Camp adventure.

Day 15 : Final Departure

Your Himalayan adventure comes to an end today. Depending on your flight schedule, enjoy some last moments in Kathmandu before being transferred to the airport by a company representative.
