Highlights

Overview

The Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is a remarkable journey through one of Nepal’s most culturally rich and naturally diverse trekking regions. Located just north of Kathmandu, the Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda area offer a perfect blend of majestic mountain views, alpine forests, spiritual sites, and traditional Tamang villages. This trek is ideal for those who want a complete Himalayan experience without the crowds of the Annapurna or Everest regions.

Organized by Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions, this trek begins in Syabrubesi and winds through the pristine Langtang Valley toward the village of Kyanjin Gompa, which sits beneath the towering Langtang Lirung (7,227 meters). After exploring the valley, the trail continues to the sacred alpine lake of Gosaikunda, believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva. The route then ascends to Lauribina La Pass (4,610 meters), offering stunning views of the Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and even distant Tibetan peaks. This trek offers not only natural beauty but also a deep spiritual and cultural immersion.

Best Time for Langtang Gosaikunda Trek
The best times to undertake the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek are during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). In these months, the weather is generally clear, and the skies offer panoramic views of the mountains. Springtime brings lush green forests and blooming rhododendrons, while autumn features stable weather, dry trails, and excellent mountain visibility.

Trekking in the monsoon (June to August) is less popular due to rain and potential landslides, although it’s when the landscape is at its greenest. Winter (December to February) is possible for experienced trekkers but requires preparation for cold weather and snow at higher altitudes, especially around Gosaikunda and the Lauribina Pass. Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions will guide you to select the best season based on your goals and comfort level, ensuring your trek is both safe and unforgettable.

Langtang Gosaikunda Trek Difficulty
The Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is classified as a moderate to challenging trek. It combines various terrains, including forested paths, rocky climbs, and high alpine passes. While the trek doesn’t require technical mountaineering skills, a good level of fitness and the ability to walk 5–7 hours a day is essential. The highest point of the trek is Lauribina La Pass at 4,610 meters, where altitude-related symptoms may occur if proper acclimatization is not followed.

That said, the trek is very manageable for most healthy individuals, especially with proper pacing and guidance. Our professional team at Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions ensures that the itinerary includes ample rest days and acclimatization stops. We provide full support including trained guides, porters, and contingency planning for weather or altitude issues, allowing you to focus fully on enjoying the journey and the breathtaking views.

Major Places for Langtang Gosaikunda Trek
The trek begins at Syabrubesi, a small town that acts as the gateway to the Langtang Valley. From here, you’ll ascend gradually through charming Tamang villages like Lama Hotel, Langtang Village, and Kyanjin Gompa, where you’ll be surrounded by stunning glaciers and snow-capped peaks. Kyanjin is also the launching point for side hikes to Tserko Ri and Langshisha Kharka, offering some of the best viewpoints in the region.

After retracing part of the route, the trail ascends toward Gosaikunda, a sacred lake nestled amidst rugged terrain and surrounded by peaks. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva created Gosaikunda by striking the mountain with his trident. Thousands of pilgrims visit the lake during the Janai Purnima festival. From here, you’ll cross the Lauribina La Pass, the highest point on the trek, before descending to Chandanbari (Sing Gompa) and finally to Dhunche, where the trek ends. Every stage of this journey brings with it new cultural insights, changing landscapes, and unique moments of peace and wonder.
