Welcome to Nepal! Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, a representative from Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions will greet you and transfer you to your comfortable hotel in the heart of the city. Take this day to rest and acclimate to the altitude, prepare your gear, and attend a briefing session about the upcoming trek with your guide. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Nepali dinner and soak in the vibrant atmosphere of Kathmandu.
Today, you will explore the rich cultural heritage of Kathmandu Valley. Your guide will take you to visit some of the most iconic sites such as Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and the medieval Durbar Squares of Kathmandu or Patan. This day is designed to immerse you in Nepalese traditions and history while making sure you are well prepared for your trekking adventure.
Early in the morning, you will take a scenic tourist bus ride to Pokhara, a picturesque city known as the gateway to the Annapurna region. The journey takes around 6-7 hours, passing through lush valleys, terraced fields, and quaint villages. On arrival, check into your hotel and enjoy a leisurely evening by the serene Phewa Lake, where you can relax and enjoy the stunning views of the Annapurna range.
After breakfast, drive from Pokhara to Nayapul (approximately 1.5 hours), the starting point of your trek. From Nayapul, begin your trek following the Modi River trail through charming villages and terraced farmlands. After a few hours of walking, you will reach Ghandruk, a traditional Gurung village perched on a ridge offering spectacular mountain views. Overnight stay in a teahouse, where you can experience local hospitality and cuisine.
The trek today leads you deeper into the Annapurna Conservation Area. You will descend into the valley and cross suspension bridges before climbing steadily to Chomrong, a large village and an important stop on the trek. Chomrong serves as a gateway to the higher Himalayas and offers breathtaking views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machapuchare (Fishtail). The atmosphere here is lively with many trekkers passing through.
Leaving the bustling village of Chomrong, you will trek uphill through dense rhododendron and bamboo forests. The trail is serene and shaded, with the possibility of spotting some local wildlife. Today’s destination, Dovan, is a quiet clearing beside a river. It’s a peaceful place to rest and prepare for the higher altitude challenges ahead.
From Dovan, the trail ascends steadily through beautiful landscapes, crossing several small streams and waterfalls. The air becomes crisper as you gain altitude. Deurali is a small settlement surrounded by towering peaks, offering panoramic views of the Annapurna massif. This is a great spot to rest and acclimatize before pushing further up the trail.
Today is the highlight of the trek as you reach Annapurna Base Camp. The trail ascends through the alpine zone with dramatic views of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Machapuchare, and Hiunchuli. Upon arrival at ABC, you will be rewarded with an unforgettable 360-degree panorama of the Annapurna range. Take time to explore, rest, and enjoy the spectacular mountain sunset before spending the night at the base camp lodge.
After a refreshing morning at ABC, you begin your descent. The trail back down passes through the same scenic route but offers new perspectives of the surrounding landscapes. You’ll retrace your steps to Bamboo, a forested area with tall bamboo groves and a quieter atmosphere, perfect for relaxing your legs after the climb.
Today, you trek downhill to Jhinu Danda, a small village famous for its natural hot springs. After reaching Jhinu Danda, take the opportunity to soak in the warm mineral waters — a perfect way to soothe tired muscles. Enjoy the serene village environment and the friendly hospitality of the local people.
The final day of trekking begins with a walk down to Nayapul, where your trek officially ends. From Nayapul, a vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to Pokhara. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and celebrate the successful completion of the trek. Spend the evening at leisure, enjoying the lively streets of Pokhara or relaxing by the lakeside.
After breakfast, board the tourist bus for the return journey to Kathmandu. This scenic drive offers one last chance to take in the stunning Himalayan foothills and rural landscapes. On arrival in Kathmandu, check back into your hotel and spend your final evening shopping for souvenirs or enjoying a farewell dinner with your trekking group and guides.
Your adventure concludes today. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some free time for last-minute shopping or sightseeing in Kathmandu. A representative from Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions will transfer you to the airport for your onward flight. We hope you had an unforgettable journey with us and look forward to welcoming you back to Nepal in the future!
I’ve trekked in Nepal before, but nothing compares to the experience Hidden Path gave us. We explored remote villages in the Dolpo region where we didn’t see another tourist for days. The landscape was otherworldly, and our guide Tenzing was incredible — knowledgeable, calm, and deeply respectful of the local culture. This wasn’t just a trek — it was an adventure into the unknown. I’ll be coming back, and I won’t go with anyone else.
Hidden Path Treks delivered something rare: a journey that felt personal, genuine, and deeply connected to Nepal’s soul. We trekked through Helambu, staying in small homestays and monasteries, sharing meals and laughter with locals. Everything was organized flawlessly but never felt commercial. It was humble, real, and moving. If you’re looking for something beyond a tourist experience, this is it.
The Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek is one of the most renowned trekking routes in Nepal, offering breathtaking views of the Annapurna mountain range, including Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Machapuchare, and Hiunchuli. The trek leads adventurers through charming villages, lush rhododendron forests, and diverse landscapes before culminating at the base camp, situated at approximately 4,130 meters (13,550 feet). It’s popular because it combines natural beauty, cultural encounters, and a relatively moderate trekking challenge, making it accessible for a wide range of trekkers.
Typically, the trek takes around 7 to 12 days, depending on your pace, acclimatization needs, and whether you want to explore side trails or nearby villages. Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions customizes itineraries to suit your preferences, whether you prefer a relaxed pace to savor the environment or a more adventurous, fast-track experience.
The best seasons to trek to Annapurna Base Camp are during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During these periods, the weather is stable, skies are clear, and the mountain views are spectacular. Spring offers vibrant rhododendron blooms, while autumn brings crisp air and excellent visibility. Winter is cold and snowy, and the monsoon season (June to August) often makes the trails slippery and challenging.
While the trek is considered moderate in difficulty, it still requires a reasonable level of fitness. Daily trekking involves 4 to 7 hours of walking on varied terrain, including uphill and downhill sections. At Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions, we recommend prior cardiovascular preparation, such as regular walking, jogging, or stair climbing, to ensure you are comfortable and enjoy the trek fully.
Accommodation along the Annapurna Base Camp trail primarily consists of teahouses — simple lodges run by local families offering basic rooms with beds and shared bathrooms. Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions ensures that you stay at reputable teahouses that maintain hygiene and comfort standards. Meals typically include Nepalese staples like dal bhat (lentil soup with rice), momos (dumplings), and noodles, as well as some Western options depending on the lodge.
Hiring a guide or porter is highly recommended for safety, navigation, and to enhance your cultural experience. Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions provides experienced, licensed guides who know the trail intimately and can handle logistics, permitting, and acclimatization advice. Porters can also be hired to carry your heavy bags, allowing you to enjoy the trek with less physical strain.
Altitude sickness can affect anyone, even fit trekkers, as you ascend above 3,000 meters. Symptoms include headaches, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. The best prevention is to ascend gradually, stay hydrated, and listen to your body. Our guides at Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions are trained to monitor your health and recommend proper acclimatization stops. If symptoms worsen, descending immediately is crucial for safety.
The trek is suitable for solo travelers, couples, families, and groups alike. With Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions, solo trekkers can join group departures for a shared experience, or opt for private guided tours. Our team ensures your safety, comfort, and enjoyment regardless of your travel style.
Along the Annapurna trail, you will encounter diverse ethnic communities such as Gurung and Magar people. You can experience their traditional hospitality, visit monasteries, and observe local festivals and lifestyles. Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions incorporates cultural highlights into the itinerary to enrich your journey beyond the mountains.
