Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, a representative from Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions will greet you and escort you to your hotel. After check-in, you’ll have time to relax or explore the vibrant city. Later in the day, you’ll meet your trekking guide for a detailed briefing and gear check for the upcoming climb. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Our journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, the gateway to the Langtang region. The road winds through lush hills, terraced farmland, and traditional villages along the Trishuli River. This 6–8 hour drive offers stunning views of Ganesh Himal and glimpses of rural Nepali life. Overnight stay at a teahouse in Syabrubesi.
We start our trek following the Langtang Khola (river) through dense forests of oak, rhododendron, and bamboo. The trail includes gradual climbs and a few suspension bridges as we gain altitude. Wildlife such as langurs and red pandas are occasionally spotted here. After about 5–6 hours of trekking, we reach the peaceful stop of Lama Hotel for the night. Overnight at a lodge.
Today’s trek continues through alpine forests and into more open landscapes. As we gain elevation, snow-capped peaks begin to emerge. After passing Ghodatabela, the trail opens into a wide valley, and the views become increasingly dramatic. By afternoon, we arrive at Langtang Village, a traditional Tamang settlement rebuilt after the 2015 earthquake. Overnight at a lodge.
The trail today leads us through yak pastures, mani walls, and scenic terrain with majestic views of Langtang Lirung and surrounding peaks. After about 4–5 hours, we reach Kyanjin Gompa, a serene village with an ancient monastery and dramatic mountain surroundings. This will be our base for acclimatization and exploration. Overnight at a lodge in Kyanjin.
To properly acclimatize for the upcoming climb, we spend the day exploring the high alpine environment. You can take an optional hike to Tserko Ri (4,984m) for breathtaking views of the Langtang range or visit the local yak cheese factory and monastery. This day is crucial for adapting to higher altitudes before moving to base camp. Overnight at the same lodge.
Today, we leave the main trekking route and ascend toward Yala Peak Base Camp. The terrain becomes rockier and more remote as we gain elevation. After 4–5 hours of hiking, we reach the base camp, located in a stunning glacial basin with incredible mountain vistas. Our team sets up camp, and your climbing guide will review safety and summit day preparation. Overnight in tents at Base Camp.
We start the summit push in the early morning, using headlamps and climbing gear for the glacier section. The climb to Yala Peak is non-technical but requires endurance, crampons, and careful footwork. After 5–6 hours of ascent, you’ll reach the summit, which offers jaw-dropping views of Shishapangma, Langtang Lirung, and Dorje Lakpa. After celebrating, we descend back to Kyanjin Gompa for a well-earned rest. Overnight at a lodge.
We retrace our steps downhill, passing through Langtang Village and Ghodatabela, and descending into the lush green forests. The downhill journey is much quicker and easier, taking around 6–7 hours. Lama Hotel, nestled among trees near the river, offers a peaceful place to rest after the long descent. Overnight at a lodge.
Our final trekking day leads us back to Syabrubesi. The trail descends gently along the Langtang River, passing through forests and small settlements. After 5 hours of hiking, we arrive in Syabrubesi, where we celebrate the successful completion of the trek and climb. Overnight at a lodge in Syabrubesi.
After breakfast, we board a private vehicle and begin our journey back to Kathmandu. The drive takes 6–8 hours through scenic countryside and mountainous terrain. Once back in the city, you’ll be transferred to your hotel. You can spend the evening shopping, enjoying local cuisine, or relaxing. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Your unforgettable Yala Peak climbing journey with Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions comes to an end. A company representative will transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward flight. We hope you leave Nepal with cherished memories and the pride of having stood atop a Himalayan summit.
Yala Peak is a trekking peak standing at 5,520 meters (18,110 feet), located in Nepal’s beautiful Langtang region, near the Tibetan border. It’s considered one of the easiest and safest trekking peaks in Nepal, making it a perfect introduction to Himalayan climbing for those with no previous mountaineering experience. While non-technical, the climb offers breathtaking views of peaks like Langtang Lirung, Shishapangma (Tibet), Dorje Lakpa, and Ganesh Himal. Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions organizes the climb as part of a culturally immersive trekking experience through Tamang villages, yak pastures, and Buddhist monasteries.
Yala Peak is a non-technical climb, requiring only basic physical fitness and some familiarity with high-altitude trekking. It’s suitable for fit beginners, families, or trekkers looking to transition from trekking to climbing. Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions provides a pre-climb training session at base camp to introduce you to the use of crampons, ropes, and ice axes, ensuring safety and confidence on summit day.
The journey begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, followed by a gradual trek through Lama Hotel, Langtang Village, and Kyanjin Gompa, a scenic alpine village rich in Tibetan Buddhist culture. After a day or two for acclimatization and exploration (including hikes to Tserko Ri or Langshisa Kharka), the group ascends to Yala Base Camp, where climbers receive training before the early morning summit push. After summiting Yala Peak, the group returns the same route to Kathmandu, completing a fulfilling circular experience that blends nature, culture, and adventure.
During the trek, accommodations are in teahouses or lodges, which offer basic but clean rooms and homemade meals. At Yala Base Camp, climbers stay in tented camps, with full support from Hidden Path’s cooking and porter team. Meals during the trek include traditional dal bhat (lentils, rice, and vegetables), noodles, soups, pancakes, and local Tibetan bread. During the climbing days, climbers are provided with nutritious high-altitude meals to maintain strength and hydration.
Yes, Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions takes care of all necessary permits, including:
Langtang National Park Entry Permit
TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) Card
Yala Peak Climbing Permit (issued by the Nepal Mountaineering Association)
These permits are all included in the climbing package.
While Yala Peak is lower than many other trekking peaks, it still rises above 5,500 meters, so altitude sickness (AMS) is a potential risk. Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions builds rest and acclimatization days into the itinerary, especially at Kyanjin Gompa, and their guides are trained in altitude safety, monitoring symptoms, and administering first aid. Oxygen and emergency evacuation are available if needed (insurance required).
The package includes:
Round-trip ground transportation from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi
All meals and accommodation during the trek and climb
Permits, taxes, and paperwork
Licensed guide, assistant guide, cook, and porters
Group climbing gear and training session
Not included are: international flights, travel insurance, personal climbing equipment, snacks, tips, and personal expenses (e.g., Wi-Fi, hot showers, or drinks). Hidden Path Treks provides guidance on gear rentals and travel insurance.
You’ll need standard trekking gear plus some basic climbing equipment:
Mountaineering boots (or insulated trekking boots)
Crampons, ice axe, harness, helmet
Down jacket, thermal layers, waterproof jacket/pants
Gloves, sunglasses, and a warm sleeping bag
Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions provides a detailed packing list and helps you rent or purchase equipment in Kathmandu before departure.
The best time to climb Yala Peak is during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These seasons offer clear skies, moderate temperatures, and stable snow conditions. Winter climbs are possible but colder and require additional preparation, while the monsoon season (June to August) is generally avoided due to heavy rainfall and poor visibility.
Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions is known for its personalized service, experienced guides, and ethical trekking practices. The company ensures you’re well-prepared, safely guided, and immersed in the local culture. Their small group sizes, safety-first approach, and local expertise in the Langtang region make your Yala Peak experience smooth, memorable, and truly rewarding—whether it’s your first Himalayan climb or part of a longer mountaineering journey.
