Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, a friendly representative from Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. After checking in and relaxing, you can enjoy a short evening stroll through the vibrant streets of Thamel. A trek briefing will be held later in the day, covering essential information, equipment checks, and introducing your guide.
Today is a free and flexible day in Kathmandu. You may choose to explore some of the city’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Pashupatinath Temple, or Boudhanath Stupa. Alternatively, use this day for last-minute trek preparation—buying or renting gear, exchanging currency, or simply relaxing. Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions will ensure all permits and logistics are ready before the journey begins.
After an early breakfast, you’ll embark on a scenic 8-10 hour drive to Dhap Bazaar. The journey winds through the Himalayan foothills, offering views of terraced fields, rivers, and scattered rural settlements. As you climb in altitude, the air gets crisper and the landscape more rugged. Dhap Bazaar is a small market town and the starting point of the Pikey Peak Trek. You’ll spend the night at a local teahouse and enjoy your first taste of mountain hospitality.
The trek begins with a pleasant walk through pine forests and open ridges. As you approach the village of Jhapre, you’re rewarded with your first distant views of Everest and Numbur Himal. Jhapre is a picturesque village perched above a deep valley, rich in Tamang and Sherpa culture. Here you’ll visit a local monastery and enjoy an authentic dinner in a cozy teahouse surrounded by prayer flags fluttering in the mountain breeze.
Today’s trail gradually ascends through rhododendron forests and yak pastures. Along the way, you’ll pass mani walls, chortens, and small monasteries that reflect the region’s strong Buddhist influence. As you reach Pikey Peak Base Camp, the landscape opens up to panoramic mountain views. The air is thinner here, so it’s important to hydrate and rest. Tonight, you'll sleep near the base of Pikey Peak, preparing for the early morning summit push.
An early start rewards you with one of the most spectacular sunrises in the Himalayas. The short but steep climb to the summit of Pikey Peak (4,065m) reveals a jaw-dropping panorama—Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Annapurna, and Dhaulagiri all come into view, along with many other peaks. After soaking in the views, you’ll descend through rocky trails and alpine terrain to Jasmane Bhanjyang, a peaceful ridge surrounded by forests and open skies.
The trail descends through pine and rhododendron forests into the lush Junbesi Valley. This day is filled with cultural encounters as you pass traditional Sherpa villages and Buddhist monuments. Junbesi is a charming riverside village and a spiritual hub in the region. It’s also one of the most beautiful settlements on the trek, with stone houses, apple orchards, and a centuries-old monastery to explore.
Enjoy a well-deserved rest day in Junbesi. You may opt to hike to the revered Thuptenchholing Monastery, a serene Tibetan Buddhist monastery housing hundreds of monks and nuns. Alternatively, you can hike to another local viewpoint for more Everest sightings. It’s a day to absorb the spiritual and cultural atmosphere of the Solu region while allowing your body to rest and rejuvenate.
Today’s trek follows a gentle trail through lush forests and quiet villages as you make your way to Phaplu. Along the way, you’ll pass traditional Sherpa homes and perhaps interact with locals engaged in farming or spinning prayer wheels. Phaplu is a small but important town in Solukhumbu, and it marks the end of your trekking journey. Enjoy a hearty meal and celebrate your accomplishments with your guide and team.
After breakfast, you’ll take a long drive back to Kathmandu, enjoying one last look at the beautiful countryside. The drive takes around 8-10 hours, depending on road conditions. Once in Kathmandu, you’ll return to your hotel and have time to rest, do some shopping, or enjoy a farewell dinner hosted by Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions.
Depending on your flight schedule, a Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions representative will transfer you to the airport for your onward journey. You leave Nepal with unforgettable memories of the mountains, culture, and kindness experienced on the Pikey Peak Trek. We hope to welcome you back for another adventure soon!
The Pikey Peak Trek is a beautiful and relatively off-the-beaten-path trekking route located in the lower Solu-Khumbu region of Nepal. It is named after Pikey Peak (4,065 meters), a stunning viewpoint renowned for offering one of the best panoramic views of Mount Everest and the eastern Himalayas. Trekkers can also see majestic peaks such as Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, and Annapurna on clear days. Organized by Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions, this trek blends breathtaking mountain vistas with a deep dive into Sherpa culture, peaceful forests, and traditional Buddhist monasteries—all within a manageable duration and without the crowds found on the Everest Base Camp trail.
The Pikey Peak Trek is considered a moderate trek, making it suitable for beginners as well as experienced hikers looking for a short Himalayan adventure. The trail does involve some steep ascents and descents, but the altitudes are relatively lower compared to other popular treks like Everest Base Camp. Trekkers should be in good physical condition and comfortable walking 5 to 6 hours per day. Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions ensures the trek is paced well and includes ample time for rest and acclimatization.
The Pikey Peak Trek typically takes 6 to 9 days, depending on your starting point and the route you choose. The trek can begin from either Jiri, Dhap, or Phaplu, with Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions offering flexible itineraries to suit your schedule. The route winds through Rhododendron forests, yak pastures, Buddhist stupas, and traditional Sherpa villages such as Jhapre, Loding, and Junbesi. The highlight is the sunrise view from Pikey Peak summit, followed by visits to ancient monasteries like Thupten Chholing. The trek ends with a scenic drive or flight back to Kathmandu.
Accommodation on the Pikey Peak Trek is in locally run teahouses or lodges. These are simple but clean and comfortable, usually offering twin-sharing rooms with basic facilities. Hot showers and charging facilities may be available in some locations for an extra fee. Meals are home-cooked and hearty, with options like dal bhat (rice and lentils), noodles, soups, momos (dumplings), and Tibetan bread. Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions ensures consistent and safe meal standards throughout the journey.
For this trek, you’ll need a Gaurishankar Conservation Area Permit (GCAP) and a TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card. Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions arranges and includes all necessary permits in your trekking package, so you don’t have to worry about the paperwork.
Although the trek reaches just above 4,000 meters at Pikey Peak, the risk of acute mountain sickness (AMS) is relatively low due to the gradual ascent and lower overall altitude. However, Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions takes all necessary precautions, including proper acclimatization, monitoring symptoms, and ensuring your safety at every stage of the trek.
The package offered by Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions usually includes ground transportation, accommodation during the trek, all meals, permits, guide and porter services, and government taxes. Additional costs may include personal trekking gear, snacks, hot showers, battery charging, tips for staff, and travel insurance. Flights (if choosing to fly in or out via Phaplu) can also be arranged upon request.
The best seasons for the Pikey Peak Trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These months offer clear skies, moderate temperatures, and spectacular views of the mountains. Spring also brings blooming rhododendrons and greenery, while autumn offers crisp air and vibrant landscapes. Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions runs fixed departures and can also arrange private treks throughout the year, including winter for those seeking a quieter, snow-covered experience.
You’ll need essential trekking gear like sturdy hiking boots, warm clothing, a sleeping bag, waterproof layers, trekking poles, and a daypack. Hidden Path Treks & Expeditions provides a detailed packing checklist after booking and can assist you in renting or purchasing equipment in Kathmandu at reasonable rates.
